Sir M V statue row! Activists plan protest in front of KRS dam on June 30
1 min readMysuru: The row over the proposed statue of Sir M Visvesvaraya is set to escalate with the members of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Eka Prathime Horata Samiti deciding to stage a protest on June 30 at the main entrance of KRS dam in Mandya district.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the activists held at Jaladarshini Guest House in the city.
The meeting was attended by Prof P V Nanjaraje Urs, former mayor Purushottam, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha leader Hosakote Basavaraj, Nandeesh Raje Urs, Sosale Siddaraju, Ashwathraje Urs, Arvind Sharma and others.
The leaders were of the common opinion that “we have to take to streets, even as the debates and discussions in this regard are underway”.
It was also decided to meet Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa within this week and lay bare the facts before the chief minister.
It may be recalled that the Water Resources Department has launched works on building the statues of 24th and celebrated ruler of Mysuru Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and Dewan Sir M V Visvesvaraya on the premises of KRS dam, as a mark of tribute for the pains they took to build the dam over River Cauvery.
It has riled a section of Mysureans who have questioned the contribution of Visvesvaraya. They want only the statue of the late Maharaja to be built at the dam premises.
