Mysuru: At a time when religion is being misused to divide the society, ace theatre director Prasanna is all set to spread the message of love and peace through epic Ramayana.

“Ayodhya Kaanda” a play based on Valimiki Ramayana by Navodaya theatre Troupe will be staged from May 5 to 8 at Kiru Rangamandira at Kalamandira premises at 7 PM.

Prasanna who has directed the play interacted with media persons on Tuesday.

“Today day our religion is used as a tool of hate, but Ramayana is surely an instrument to spread love and peace with unity”, said Prasanna.

We are now setting a company style professional troupe with a mix of youngsters and senior theatre personalities. Ayodhya Kaanda is the first experinent, which will later continue every week, Prasanna added.

We chose Ramayana because we believe, Rama, Jesus and Prophet, all are being used divisively today. Even socialism, that was a great idea, is being used divisively today. They are all being used in an opposite sense from what they are. Thus poet Kuvempu had declared long back ‘Rama is great but Ramayana is greater’. Ramayana is the only epic in the world that is written on the theme of civility. Let’s re-establish civility through Ramayana, Prasanna gave a call.

Back to theatre: I have returned to theatre after almost two decades. Meanwhile, I was working with the village-crafts. And, also living in a village. I have come back to the city and to the theatre, now. My friends have started a professional set up in theatre in Mysuru and have invited me to join them to direct plays. We are going to perform our first production Ayodhya Kaanda, a play based on the epic Ramayana.

Senior actor of Rangayana Prashanth Hiremath, National School of Drama (NSD) Graduate Padmashree C R, Vishwas Krishna, Rajalakshmi K Murthy, Anush Shetty and Sundaresh Devapriyam (Munna) are the artistes. Music is by Anush Shetty, make up by Ramachandra B M, costumes by Nandini K R, lighting by Mahesh Kumar Nanjundaiah, still Photography is by Lokesh Mosale. While Executive Producer of the play is B Rajesh.
