Mysuru: The protest against Rangayana director Addanda C Cariyappa reached yet another stage on Monday.
Bunch of organisations under Samudaya Karnataka staged a protest against Cariyappa.
Theatre enthusiasts along with Rangayana former directors C Basavalingaiah and H Janardhan ( Janni) and theatre person S R Ramesh, farmer organisations, Karnataka Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagrutha Vedike and Dalit Sangarsha Samiti participated in the protest on Rangayana premises.
C Basavalingaiah said “Rangayana will be completing 33 years of its existence on coming Sankranti in January. It was founded to establish Kannada theatre repertory, but Addanda Cariyappa has turned this into a political stage.”
“We demand to sack Addanda Cariyappa as his conversations are not accepted. He has made bad remarks on theatre persons. We are not against Bahuroopi, but against inviting Chakravarthy Sulibele, as his speeches are full of lies. We are opposing the political rhetoric at Rangayana, not Bahuroopi,” said Basavalingaiah.
He also warned that if Cariyappa is not ready to withdraw the invite to Sulibele, we are ready to organise alternate theatre festival.
Janardhan said “Addanda Cariyappa lacks culture as he is acting like a politician, if he is interested in politics, let him go and join politics.”
