Tokyo: It was a Golden Day for India, as Indian Neeraj Chopra won gold medal in Javelin throw at Tokyo Olympics.
The 23-year-old Chopra was the first Indian javelin thrower to enter the finals of the games with a big throw of 86.65 m that put him on the top of Group ‘A’ qualification.
Neeraj who hails from Khandra village near Panipat in Haryana produced the second throw of 87.58 m in the finals to stun the athletics world and end India’s 100-year long wait for a track and field medal in Olympics.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi who congratulated Chopra, tweeted saying “History has been scripted in Tokyo. What Neeraj Chopra achieved today will be remembered forever. The young Neeraj has done exceptionally well. He played with remarkable passion and showed unparalleled grit. Congratulations to him for winning the Gold.”
Thousands of Indians tarted celebrating the golden moment with social media abuzz over Chopra’s historic feat.
Unable to control his emotions, Haryana Home Minister danced after seeing Neeraj’s winning moment.
