Wild tusker dies as Bengaluru- Karwar Express train hits in Hassan
1 min readSakaleshpur: A wild tusker was killed after it was allegedly hit by a train at the railway crossing at Hadase village near Sakaleshpura in Hassan district on Tuesday night.
At around 11-30 pm, the elephant tried to cross the railway track when it was knocked down by Bengaluru- Karwar Express train.
The gatekeeper at railway gate didn’t notice the elephant, when the gates were being closed for the smooth passing of the train, 10 minutes before the incident.
However, as the train was approaching, the elephant sprung up on the track. As the either side of the track had deep pit, the pachyderm may have found it difficult to go nowhere.
Repeated efforts made to drive away the elephant by honking and flash light of the train went in vain.
After many hours of operation, the carcass of the elephant was shifted from the track with the help of a crane, allowing the train to resume its journey.
