2 min readBengaluru: A woman who was rescued from a car that was stuck in K R Circle underpass has breathed her last at St Martha’s Hospital on Sunday.
The deceased is identified as 22-year-old Bhanurekha, a software employee working at Infosys Bengaluru. She along with her family members had rented a vehicle from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh to sightsee Bengaluru on Sunday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters at the Hospital.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who rushed to the hospital to take stock of the situation, announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh to bereaved Bhanurekha’s family. Also, the government will bear the treatment of her family members.
CM Siddaramaiah told reporters that although a barricade was put up at the mouth of the underpass, it had fallen off due to the rain. And the driver drove the vehicle into the underpass expecting to cross it. But the vehicle got stuck and the doors were jammed due to the water making it difficult to rescue the passengers, he informed.
Stating that waterlogging has been the bane of Bengaluru, especially at K R Circle, he observed that this needs to be addressed at the earliest and traffic needs to be blocked when it rains heavily.
He said the government will work on clearing of Rajakaluve encroachments, a primary reason for waterlogging of the City.
On allegations that the hospital delayed the treatment, he said he will order for inquiry into any negligence on the part of the hospital. However, the CM Siddaramaiah said the doctors denied any negligence on their part.
