2 min read

Mysuru: Internationally renowned Yoga teacher Sharath Jois, who passed away recently, had many dreams that remained unfulfilled.

Sharath Jois, the grandson of Internationally acclaimed Yoga Guru K Pattabhi Jois, died at the age of 53, due to heart attack at Virginia in USA on last Sunday.

According to Ananth, also a Yoga teacher and Founder President of Himalaya Prathisthan, Sharath wanted to bring out a biography of his grandfather K Pattabhi Jois. He also wanted to adopt Government Schools, to teach Ashtanga Yoga to the students.

Ananth said, he and Sharath, had a mega plan to publish the biography of Pattabhi Jois, but it remained in the pipeline as Sharath was ever busy.

Ananth recalls, when he launched ‘Arogya Kirana’, a monthly in Kannada, devoted to Yogasana, Sharath readily accepted the offer to be its Honorary Editor and also gave the financial assistance. Besides, he was giving suggestions on making the monthly more informative.

Ananth said, when Sharath was conferred Vidyaranya Rajyotsava Award by Himalaya Prathisthan, the Institution of Engineers auditorium on JLB road was houseful. The foreigners were in large numbers among the audience.

Ananth said, when Sharath Jois was opening his new new Yoga Centre, in Hebbal, he had taken me there on a visit. He had invited me to his new house and played a host.

“When I was writing a biography- Yogiraja Sri Tirumale Krishnamacharya- Sharath had provided several key informations, which he was aware of” said Ananth.

Sharath was so committed to Yoga that, as he couldn’t attend the Yoga conference, he had expressed his regret for skipping the meet, said Ananth.
