Youths must actively take part in rebuilding nation on Gandhian influence: Saroja Tulsidas

Mysuru: To commemorate the 75th Independence Day of our nation in advance as part of Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Seshadripuram Degree College, Mysuru and Gandhi Study Centre in association with IQAC, NSS and H C Dasappa Institute of public affairs had organised a State level webinar on “Gandhian Satyagraha A Tool & The Goal” on Friday.
It was virtually connected through Google meet.
Dr Prameela Devi B K, Retired Associate Professor, Karnataka Collegiate Education was the resource person and the key speaker of the Webinar.
She spoke at length about indian History related to indian Freedom Movement where the role of Mahatma Gandhi was appreciated for having incorporated principles of Satyagraha as a tool and the goal.
She emphasized on the principle of Satyagraha from Gandhian perspective while analysing freedom movements like Salt Satyagraha – Dandi March, Quit India Movement, Non Cooperation Movement and Chauri Chaura Incident.
She shared light on the writers like Leo Tolstoy and John Ruskin who had influenced Mahatma Gandhi.
She concluded by sharing concern on Indian economy in these times of Pandemic which has seen adverse effects and critically in need of economic rejuvenation.
Saroja Tulasidas, Secretary, H C Dasappa Institute of public affairs, Mysuru was the guest of honour for the webinar.
In her address Saroja Tulsidas recalled the contributions of H C Dasappa and Yashodara Dasappa during the freedom movement who were true followers of Mahatma Gandhi.
She shared her memories of Dasappa and Yashodara Dasappa recalling the incidents where Dasappa was jailed many times for participating in the freedom movement and Yashodara Dasappa’s courage in defending the flag hoisting against the opposition of the British.
She praised the way the family was transformed, completely rejecting western influence and regaining Gandhian influence as an effect seen after being associated with Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturaba Gandhi.
She concluded with an optimistic view by giving a call for youths to actively participate in the reconstruction of the nation based on Gandhian influence.
The event was live streamed on YouTube to give an alternative method of attending for all the students from the comforts of their homes during the pandemic.
Prof Sowmya Erappa K, Principal Seshadripuram Degree College and Kishore A P, Department of English, Coordinator of the programme, students and other teaching and non-teaching staff were present.
